Hideaway Barns

Hideaway Barns is a collection of six large group holiday homes in the Wiltshire countryside, just over an hour from London. Each one has its own character and a genuinely unreasonable amount going for it: private heated pools, hot tubs, saunas, games rooms, banquet dining tables, roof terraces, and outside kitchens. The kind of hen party accommodation that turns a good weekend into one people are still talking about at the wedding. Book one home for a smaller group, or combine several to bring the full party together. The estate sleeps up to 82 guests in total, and there are also alpacas. We’ll get to those.

The Homes

Six large group holiday homes, each with its own personality and its own serious set of reasons to book. The Granary has the underground heated pool that has, fairly or not, gone somewhat viral. The Hall has an outdoor heated pool, two games rooms, and an outside kitchen that turns pizza night into an event. Hogwash is the biggest on the estate: 10 bedrooms, a spa hall, and a glass-ended pool that lets the light in something special. The Piglets Barn has a roof terrace with views over the estate and a heated pool that runs hot enough to feel like a hot tub. Stackhouse is the newest and, with its stainless steel pool, bedroom tower, and a kitchen-diner designed to make you want to spend time in it, arguably the most striking. The Foley sleeps eight, the smallest of the group, and still has a hot tub, cold plunge, panoramic sauna, and outdoor games. For groups booking multiple homes, several sit within easy reach of each other. Contact the team and we’ll help you work out the right combination.

The Estate

Hideaway Barns sits within 20 acres of Wiltshire countryside and feels genuinely like a world of its own. The homes are fully self-catered group holiday accommodation with kitchens actually designed for feeding a crowd, banquet tables that seat everyone at once, and private heated pools or hot tubs that are yours alone for the full duration of your stay. No shared facilities, no other guests, no compromises.

The estate also has some residents worth knowing about: alpacas, goats, and a small collection of mini pigs who are, by all accounts, not especially mini anymore. The team can help shape your stay well before you arrive, from decorations and celebration extras to grocery deliveries, extra beds, and additional housekeeping. Dogs are also welcome, with 20 acres of grounds to explore. The kind of place where, come Sunday morning, nobody is particularly motivated to leave.

Things To Do

The honest answer is that most groups don’t leave the estate, and these homes are built precisely so you don’t have to. Morning swims, long afternoons in the hot tub, dinners that start at seven and end somewhere closer to midnight, games room tournaments that get competitive faster than anyone expected. For hen parties especially, a weekend spent entirely within these four walls is no bad thing. The estate is also home to alpacas, goats, and mini pigs who roam the grounds. Consider them a bonus.

For groups who want to build more into their stay, there’s a full menu of bookable add-ons, all run within the home, all available in advance: cocktail masterclasses, private chef dining, in-house spa treatments, sip and paint evenings, and yoga sessions. No taxis, no minibuses, no logistics. If you do want to venture out, Frome is four miles away with good food, a thriving independent scene, and architecture worth a wander. Cley Hill, a National Trust viewpoint, is a proper walk with views that justify the effort. Bath is roughly 30 minutes for anyone planning a day out or a dinner booking.

The location

Hideaway Barns sits in Chapmanslade, a small parish in Wiltshire with a population of around 600, which gives you an accurate sense of just how quiet and removed it feels. As large group holiday accommodation goes, the location is well placed: just over an hour from London, within easy reach of Bristol and Bath, and straightforward to get to with no difficult roads at the end of it. Major supermarkets including Tesco, Asda, and Ocado all deliver to the estate if you’d rather have the fridge stocked before you arrive.

Frome is the nearest town, roughly four miles away and about ten minutes by car: independent shops, good food and drink, a thriving arts scene, and historic architecture that tends to come as a pleasant surprise. For walking, Heaven’s Gate is a gentle route suitable for most, while Cley Hill is a National Trust-protected landscape with panoramic views across Wiltshire that are worth the climb. Bath is roughly 30 minutes away and well worth a visit: a genuinely beautiful city with Roman baths, Georgian architecture, independent restaurants, and a good half day’s worth of things to do if you want a change of scene. Bristol is around 45 minutes for those who prefer a bit more city energy. For groups travelling from London, it’s an easy run down the M4.
