The Homes

Something for every kind of trip. Romantic cottages for two, farmhouses that sleep a crowd, historic barn conversions, and everything in between. The homes at The Moors Collective range from cosy one-bedroom retreats to large group properties sleeping up to 14. They share the same Yorkshire Dales setting and the same attention to detail, but each one has its own personality. Some are steeped in history, sitting within the grounds of a grand 19th-century hall. Others are newly renovated and contemporary. All of them are the kind of place that makes you wish you’d booked an extra night. Planning a big get-together? Several of the homes sit close enough together to book as a group, so you’ve got your own private corner of the Yorkshire Dales. All properties are dog-friendly too, because obviously.

Site Map

From converted farmhouses on the edge of the moorland to historic cottages tucked within the hall's grounds – the map shows just how much there is to explore. With homes dotted across the estate, larger groups can book multiple properties and still be within easy reach of each other. Pick your home, plan your stay, and leave the rest to us

The Estate

The Moors Collective sits within a historic estate near Skipton. There’s almost 3,000 acres of gently rolling Yorkshire Dales countryside, with farmland, ancient woodland, winding pathways and portrait-ready views at pretty much every turn. The estate itself has a history stretching back over a thousand years, with the hall at its centre having featured in film and TV productions over the years. It's the kind of place that takes a bit of time to properly explore, which is a very good reason to book a few extra nights.

Guests booking through Birch Stays get exclusive access to the estate's facilities once their stay is confirmed. That includes a spa with pool, sauna, steam room and hydro pool, a relaxation room and gym, and a walled garden bistro serving plant-based food with views out over 18th-century gardens. Spa access is available to book at an additional cost – but trust us, it's worth it. It's the kind of set-up that makes it very easy to never leave the estate (which, to be fair, is entirely the point).

Eat & drink on the estate

The on-site garden bistro serves plant-based food, with a complimentary breakfast for guests every weekday morning. Just down the road, a traditional pub and restaurant serves homemade, locally sourced food, with 15% off for groups of up to six. A decent excuse to order another round.

Spa & Wellness Centre

Exclusively available to estate guests, the spa is bookable at a small additional cost and very much worth it. Pool, sauna, steam room and hydro pool – plus a relaxation room for when you need to do absolutely nothing for a while. Not open to the public, which makes it feel all the more like yours.

A thousand years of history

The estate has been here since before anyone was keeping count. At its heart sits a grand 19th-century hall with a history stretching back over a millennium, and with the kind of grounds that make you want to explore every corner. Guided tours are available for guests who want the full story

Things To Do

There’s genuinely a lot going on here, and most of it involves being outside, which can only be a good thing. Birch Stays guests can book a full range of activities and experiences once their stay is confirmed. On the active end: guided hikes across the Yorkshire Three Peaks, cycling trails through the estate, wild swimming, forest bathing, and woodland walks across nearly 3,000 acres of countryside. There are also stone circles, a cosmic garden, and tree planting sessions if you fancy something a little more unexpected on your itinerary.

For those leaning more towards the wellness end of things, spa treatments, meditation sessions, and exercise classes are all available to book at an additional cost. As a Birch Stays guest you get exclusive access to the spa, including pool, sauna, steam room and hydro pool, something not available to the general public. Activities change through the seasons, so there’s always something new. And if your idea of a perfect day is a sauna, a good book, and a long dinner – that absolutely counts too.

The location

The Moors Collective is set near Skipton, a market town that sits right at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s an easy base with a lot going on: a medieval castle, independent shops, great food, and the kind of high street that still has a proper butcher. From here, the Three Peaks, limestone valleys, open moorland and quiet country pubs are all within easy reach.

In terms of getting here, it’s around 45 minutes from Leeds, an hour from Manchester and York, and well connected by rail with direct links from Leeds and Bradford. Skipton also sits close to some of the Dales’ most visited spots – Bolton Abbey, the Ribble Valley, Malham Cove – all within a short drive. The kind of location where you could easily fill a week and still feel like you missed half of it.
